Wishing for more Wyoming
Wish we could have stayed longer in Wyoming, but we have a deadline to be in Kentucky by mid September, so lingering is not an option right now.
Coming back is not an option either. I think that is a must.
I want to see the northern part of the state too, not just the southern I80 corridor. Yes, there is Yellowstone, and I suppose that will be a must-see, but as a fan of the Longmire series by Craig Johnson, I want to see Buffalo (inspiration for the mythic Durant) the Bighorn Mountains and Casper. I want to see Ten Sleep, Osage & Thunder Basin. Just seeing them on the road signs made me smile, and seeing the Sinclair Stations & the Kum & Gos made my day, (not bad for a mere gas station!) There are neither on the East Coast, but they are peppered throughout the books. Now they are no longer just words on a page.
Mountains like melting blobs of pistachio and chocolate ice cream
Do you think they will be planting petunias in cop cars in a hundred years?
Still hazy from the wildfire smoke
And REST. Might be a bit gravelly, but at least the view is good!
This is our first stop at a County Fairground, and whilst it is just a shadeless gravel parking lot, the view is certainly worth while. Had we not stopped barely a week after their Annual Horse Poo Extravaganza, I am sure the flies would not have been quite so numerous! FLY! ~ thwap ~ luckily they are quite dozy.
They do a nice sunset in Wyoming
