Edwardian Elegance in Hot Springs National Park, AK
Imagine bathing in water that fell to earth when the Egyptians were building the pyramids. It’s taken that long for the water to seep through the surrounding rock, gathering minerals and warmth along the way and then bubble to the surface for our pleasure.
Presumably the rain that soaked us this weekend will be making its reappearance in another 4000 years, to delight whatever creatures are relaxing around the pools.
The Fordyce Bathhouse, reviewed as the best in town in 1915, has been restored to its Edwardian splendor and is free for visitors to wander and explore in their own time.

A ceiling rail allowed immobile visitors to be hoisted and moved to other areas of the bathhouse for treatment and relaxation. The double wide doors are for the elevator
It was easy to imagine the mustachioed gentleman sparring, pommeling and swinging about in the vaulted rafters. Alas, I could not get a good photo of my favourite things, which were the mahogany & red velvet workout equipment. Sturdy pieces of fine furniture with elegant cushions for your comfort, whilst your legs are tortured by weights and rollers crunch your abs.
