Bourbon and Tobacco in Taylorsville, KY

It was quite a surprise heading back to the East side of the States, not least for the fact that we did not account for the time change and ended up dragging the Airstream through Louisville at rush hour. Heyho.

Sparkling day at Taylorsville State Park, our home for a week

The really surprising thing is how familiar everything feels, despite never being in Kentucky. The building blocks are all very familiar - recognizable birds and butterflies, the trees & flowers, and the general level of heat and humidity at the end of summer.

And yet there are enough differences to make me realize that this is still unfamiliar territory. The tobacco harvest is just ripening to chartreuse green, with some already hanging in the barns to dry. They also seem to prefer their barns painted black in this part of the state, whereas the rest of the country sticks to a more traditional red or white. I think a black barn is rather elegant, and should I ever own a barn, I shall certainly be painting it a lovely dark charcoal grey.

There are a surprising amount of red brick buildings in this part of the state - Main Street in Bloomfield, KY

And then there is the bourbon.
Lots and lots and lots of it.
And, of course, the main reason we are visiting in the first place.
I shall be the designated driver for this stop!
