ummmm, so we're really gonna drive through that?

So we're winding our way through the mountains outside Salt Lake City and we can see a column of smoke. Sometimes it's in front of us, but the road wiggles and it looks like we are heading away from it, then it swings round again. Nothing online about it, nothing on the radio. And the smoke is white, which, according to The Walking Dead, means whatever is burning has gone out ( - see Episode 4:14. Binge watching every episode has obviously paid off at last)

About the time we see the helicopters dumping water, and the smoke has turned black, we figured out that yes, apparently we are going to drive right through that.

Nothing to see here...Move along.

And 2 minutes later it was gone. No fuss, no bother, not to worry that there are flames right next to me on the grassy shoulder, or that it appears to have jumped the highway, which it isn't supposed to do. If New Jersey taught me not to fuss about a few inches of snow, then Utah has done the same for 2 minutes of wildfire.

Still. Quite. Exciting.
